Mafia romance but historical, 1920s vibes

  • Hey everyone! I’m on the hunt for a dark romance set in the Roaring Twenties—think flappers, speakeasies, jazz, and the gritty underworld of Prohibition. Ideally, the story would involve a forbidden romance between a dangerous gangster and a girl down on her luck. Bonus points if it includes themes of captor and captive or blackmail, with lots of intense emotional dynamics and power play.

The only thing I've read that is even remotely like this is an abandoned story by deathsdoll on her old fictionpress account, (her old username was MindWideOpen). It's called Broken Bottles and I highly recommend it, even if its left on a cliffy, I can't stop thinking about it. I liked the side characters story too Promise of a Different Sort. I loved Lassoed Hearts and IICHY of course. I hate that I sound like a fangirl, but her stories just hit different than other authors out there. In any case I'm desperate to find another story like Broken Bottles.

I’d love something atmospheric, with complex characters and a morally gray hero and lots of spice. I like a good irredeemable ML who’s borderline unhinged but completely devoted. It could be that he gradually catches feelings or instalove, don't mind either way, but I prefer ML to fall first and hardest. Prefer it to be between one ML and FL and no sharing because he's got possessive “you’re mine” energy. Non-con, dub-con, blackmail, stockholm syndrome, mindbreak and abuse all fine by me but squeamish about gratuitous gore. Want them to end up together by any means necessary ✨ If you’ve read anything like this, please drop your recs below!

    Thanks in advance!
